Île Sainte-Marie, known locally as Nosy Boraha, is an island off the northeast coast of Madagascar, in the Indian Ocean. It spans roughly 130 square kilometres and stretches just over 50 kilometres in length, fringed by pristine beaches and steeped in pirate history, Captain Kidd is said to be buried in a cemetery still standing on the island today. There’s no wrong time to visit, just different moods of the island. July and August are the driest, breeziest months and coincide with whale season, when humpback whales migrate through the surrounding waters to calve. May and June bring gentle trade winds and some of the most comfortable beach weather of the year. October is often considered the sweet spot, warm, calm seas and consistently sunny days. December through March is lush and tropical, with short, refreshing afternoon showers.
Most international flights connect through Antananarivo (TNR), with direct routes from Paris, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Istanbul, Dubai, Johannesburg, Mauritius and Réunion. From there, connect on to Sainte Marie Airport, or arrange a private or scheduled charter directly with Voaara.
